According to Nasser, why does the Suez Canal rightfully belong to Egypt?

According to Nasser, the Suez Canal rightfully belongs to Egypt because the company that built it was French, but used Egyptian laborers. He also said since 120 000 workers were lost in the construction, it should belong to Egypt.
