The Soviet Union took over Eastern Europe up too half of Germany, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Yugoslavia, and Albania. The Democratic states were independent of each other and took up Western Germany (& West Berlin), Italy, Greece, Turkey, Austria, Italy, and France. These were the border states of Europe.
