p - 1 = 5p + 3p - 8

We're essentially just trying to get "p" isolated, or by itself.

So, we must subtract 5p from both sides.

p - 1 - 5p = 3p - 8

Then, you subtract 3p from both sides.

p - 1 - 5p - 3p = -8

You then add 1 to both sides.

p - 5p - 3p = -8 + 1

Simplify.

-4p - 3p = -7

Simplify.

-7p = -7

Divide both sides b -7.

p = 1
